Simon Poh is currently Tax Director of Nexia TS Public Accounting Corporation, a Singapore member firm of Nexia International which ranks within the top 10 worldwide network of independent accounting and consulting firms with more than 500 offices in more than 100 countries.
A distinguished tax practitioner both in Singapore and the region, Simon has more than 26 years of extensive experience encompassing GST compliance and risk management, international tax planning, transfer pricing, corporate restructuring, business acquisitions and mergers, expatriate tax planning, and advising clients on the tax implications of both inbound and outbound investments. This includes 9 years with the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore, 3 years with reputable regional multinational corporations and more than 10 years with top international accounting firms.
Simon is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore, an Accredited Tax Advisor (Income Tax and GST) of the Singapore Institute of Accredited Tax Professionals, a Full Member of the Singapore Institute of Directors and an Honorary Member of the Financial Planning Association of Singapore.
Besides his professional responsibilities, Simon is also active in academia. He is currently an Associate Professor (Adjunct) at both Nanyang Business School of Nanyang Technological University as well as National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School where he conducts taxation and advanced taxation modules for undergraduates and MBA students. Since 2006, he has been acting as Examiner for taxation and advanced taxation modules offered in professional accountancy examinations. He is the author of "Taxation in Singapore" which was published since 2008. Besides speaking at numerous external tax seminars and conducting regular tax workshops for professional bodies, he is also a regular contributor to the local media and professional journals on current taxation issues.
Budget 2012 is expected to be delivered by the Finance Minister, Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam in mid-February 2012. Against a backdrop of an uncertain global economic environment, will there be any novel tax initiatives that will be announced by the government this time?
